Our services

Design brief

No two companies and no two products are alike. We will produce a tailor-made project plan and offer based on your particular needs on product innovation and design. We're happy to send a project manager to your site or welcome you at our office in Antwerp.

Concept design

At first a range of sketches is presented to outline a design concept. We encourage customers to get involved in the product design process to ensure a concept is reached that fully meets their requirements. We would even recommend to go beyond this traditional development kickoff and initiate the project with an innovation workshop.

In an innovation workshop we bring together key actors from the company, customers, suppliers, experts, … and tap their ideas on more valuable products and services. The main benefits of this approach are the creation of broader organizational involvement and support for new product development, and consequently the proposal of potentially more successful design concepts.

3D CAD engineering

Aesthetics and technical knowledge converge in a fully engineered CAD model for manufacturing and visualisation.
We work with a range of CAD software, including Unigraphics NX , Solidworks, Autodesk 3ds Max and the V-Ray rendering engine.

Visualization

From quick explorative sketches to elaborate design drawings to photo-realistic 3D visualization or video animation, we create the material you need to further your plans.

prototyping

Smidesign holds its workshop close to its heart. Here, we build and evaluate early functional prototypes, explore styling and ergonomic options in foam or wooden mock-ups, or assemble and finish the advanced models we receive from our rapid prototyping suppliers.

Patent research and application

Initial patent research serves to explore existing patented solutions and feed the creative process. Should the client intend to apply for a patent, Smidesign offers research and application services.

Electronic product design

Surrounding Smidesign's product design team is a network of electronic design engineers and technology developers allowing us to offer complete electronic product design from concept to completion.

Product testing and certification

For products that need to conform to European or other standards, we can bring the client into contact with the appropriate certifying body (such as TÜV).

Packaging

Good protection, logistics and sales promotion is a matter of good product and packaging design. These two elements are deeply intertwined with the design process. With this in mind, we work closely with suppliers of packaging materials and packaging design agencies.

Production

Smidesign has many years of experience offering local or overseas production. We have a broad network of suppliers with ISO 9001 certification within Europe and East Asia with whom we closely collaborate.
